At Resonate Community Church, we order our lives around the values of faith, hope, and love. And as we order our lives, we find that a natural rhythm emerges.
Faith - How do we develop and grow in our faith? As we seek to become more like Christ, we must listen to his voice and learn his ways. How do we do that? The best tools we have are reading the Bible and prayer. Part of our weekly rhythm involves making time to focus our thoughts on Jesus, learning the way he lived and taught in order to find our way in life. For centuries, followers of Christ have used the following elements to discover how God is speaking to them in their context and relationships.
Begin by slowly reading a selected chapter of Scripture, making note of which words or phrases catch your attention. Many have found it useful to go chapter by chapter through a particular book of the Bible.
Next, consider the passage for a moment. Allow yourself time to meditate on its meaning.
Now, take time to respond to God regarding the passage. This is a great time to pray and ask for God’s guidance, as well as express your feelings to him regarding the passage.
Finally, take time to lovingly focus on your relationship with Jesus and the passage. Allow the word to become a part of your week as you continue to respond to Christ.
Hope - As followers of Christ, we are called to be a voice of hope in this world. Jesus himself ordered his life to serve others. When we live beyond ourselves and consider others, we show them the love of God. Just like Jesus, we will focus on blessing others each week. We have received a blessing from God – a relationship with Jesus – and should seek to bring that love and light to others. The possibilities are endless!
We often have opportunities to work together in our community to bless others. However, there will be unique opportunities that will present themselves, if we are willing to see them. We have been sent into this world to show others the love of God. Sometimes, simply asking others how you can pray for God to bless them will be enough.
Love – Early in the life of the church, the followers of Christ were known for their love for one another. And as they shared life together, they would often share a meal as well. Not only is it a great way to start a conversation, but our hospitality and care come through as well. Each week, our weekly rhythm finds friends sharing a cup of coffee, a picnic, or even a sit-down dinner. We are generous with our time and provisions, and reflect Christ’s love as we share these things.
